Shoosmiths serious injury team celebrates success

31 October 2023

Shoosmiths serious injury team is confirmed as one of the country’s leading clinical negligence and personal injury practices.

Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500 are the leading law firm directories providing benchmarking data on firms by practice area and region. The launch of their annual results in October is eagerly awaited by solicitors each year, especially because rankings are based in large part on feedback and recommendation of clients.

We’re delighted that Shoosmiths’ serious injury team has had another excellent year. Across both directories, our clinical negligence and personal injury teams have retained their top tier rankings.

A number of our lawyers have also been recognised individually by the directories. Chambers and Partners has ranked nine of our legal advisers, including Head of Department Phil Barnes, and Partners Kashmir Uppal and Denise Stephens, who are all ranked Band 1. Natasha Read, Principal Associate, is listed as an ‘Associate to Watch’ with some fantastic feedback, and Guv Samra is ranked as a ‘Star Associate’ in Education for her SEND work.

This year The Legal 500 has given Denise Stephens ‘Hall of Fame’ status; this accolade highlights the partners wo are at the pinnacle of their profession and ‘who have received constant praise from their clients for continued excellence’. Four members of the team have also been designated ‘Leading Individuals’ – lawyers who ‘are defined as true market leaders with long-established reputations’: Phil Barnes, Andrea Rusbridge, Sue Prior and our education law specialist Guv Samra. In all, 15 members of the serious injury team are ranked by The Legal 500, half of whom are Senior or Principal Associates.

As well as the launch of the legal directories, October saw the launch of The Times Best Law Firms 2024. Shoosmiths’ serious injury team is listed as one of the best firms for personal injury and clinical negligence, with Phil Barnes’ Supreme Court hearing on secondary victim claims (which is awaiting judgment) highlighted.

Phil Barnes said:

“These excellent results are testament to the dedication of our lawyers in helping clients to get justice and rebuild their lives. I am so proud of everyone in the team and their commitment to the remarkable work they do. I would like to thank all of our clients and contacts who took the time to contribute to the research, it means a great deal to us.”
