Shoosmiths act on behalf of former patients of Mr Mian Munawar Shah

10 October 2023

Shoosmiths Serious Injury are instructed by a number of patients who were formerly under the care of Mr Mian Munawar Shah, a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. Mr Shah worked at Walsall Manor Hospital which is managed by Walsall Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Shah is no longer employed by the Trust, and it was reported back in September 2022, that approximately 600 patients would be contacted. An update by the Trust in December 2022, stated that “Almost 400 patients have now been contacted as part of a review into complex upper limb surgery carried out at Walsall Manor Hospital”. No further updates have been published since.

Our expert solicitors are investigating medical negligence claims in relation to upper limb surgery performed by Mr Shah.  As a result of the treatment our clients received, they have suffered poor outcomes with worsened and chronic pain, restricted movement and nerve damage.

Our clients’ lives have been devastated by the poor outcome of the treatment they have received. A number of our clients are either no longer able to work or have had to adapt their employment and many require daily care and assistance from friends and family. Further treatment has also been recommended to several patients.

If you are one of Mr Shah’s patients and you have concerns about the treatment you received, contact us for a free and confidential discussion. You can call us on 0333 920 8797 or send us a message.

A recent announcement from the Department for Health and Social Care is also important to note. It has been announced that Fixed Recoverable Costs will come into force on 6 April 2024 for medical negligence cases where the damages are valued at £1,501.00 to £25,000.00. This will drastically reduce the proportion of your legal costs which may be recoverable from the Defendant. The change will only apply to cases where the Defendant is notified of the claim after 6 April 2024.

What does this mean for you?

If you are considering contacting Shoosmiths regarding a potential clinical negligence claim, we advise that you contact us as soon as possible with your enquiry. This will enable us to begin investigations in advance of 6 April 2024 and ensure that your case does not fall into the new costs regime by giving notice to the Defendant.
