£525,000 award for family of breast cancer victim told to treat a lump in her breast with primrose oil
Mohammed Chaudhry lost his wife Samina aged just 33 after Northampton General Hospital took two years to perform a biopsy of her breast.
At first, doctors insisted that the painful lump on his wife's breast was a skin complaint which should be treated with primrose oil. It was only two and a half years after she had first sought help that the hospital agreed to carry out a biopsy
That biopsy revealed advanced breast cancer. Only a couple of years after that diagnosis, Samina passed away at home. An early correct diagnosis would have given her a 77% chance of surviving another 10 years.
We approached the NHS Trust responsible for Samina's misdiagnosis arguing that because they did not identify and therefore treat the cancer early enough, by the time it was discovered nothing could be done.
The claim covered Samina's pain and suffering and a dependency claim for her husband and their children. After negotiations, the case was settled with an agreement for our client's family to receive damages of £525,000 plus costs.
This was a tragic case that should not have happened. If Samina had been taken seriously at the outset and a biopsy done during her initial hospital appointment, she would in all probability still be here today with her husband and children.
Listen to Mohammed tell his and his wife's story in the video below.
