Shoosmiths acted for a client who suffered multiple injuries in a road traffic accident in which she sustained a fracture to her knee and injuries to her chest, ribs, neck, and spine.

Our client was driving along a two-way single carriageway when a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction swerved in front of the car immediately ahead of her, hitting both that vehicle and our client's car.

The fractured knee required surgery and she also experienced psychiatric problems for some time after the event. After surgery our client was off work for approximately four months, returning to light duties only.

Eighteen months after the accident, our client could not continue in her job, so she resigned and took a less physically demanding role with a lower salary.

Due to ongoing police enquiries, it took eight months to get an admission of liability. In the meantime, we arranged for our client’s physical injuries to be examined by an independent expert and got a report from a psychiatrist on her psychological symptoms.

We secured an interim payment of £5,000 to help out while she was off work and included an allowance for her past and future loss of earnings in the claim as well as a sum to cover the substantial amount of care provided by a relative since the accident.

Without the need to go to court, we managed to secure our client the sum of £60,000 pay-out for her injuries and her financial losses.
