Shoosmiths supports launch of Post Covid/Long Covid Support Group

21 April 2021

Shoosmiths is supporting Northampton-based charity Singing4Breathing (S4B) in launching a new Post Covid Support Recovery Group (PCRG) to help people who suffer post Covid or long Covid manage their breathlessness and other symptoms.

Post Covid Recovery Group in concert with ShoosmithsThe official launch of this new group was originally scheduled for March 2021 but had to be postponed until April 2021 as one of the organisers was diagnosed with Covid and had to self-isolate. The 40-minute virtual sessions will be accessible not just in Northamptonshire, but across the UK, and will feature breathing exercises and advice from S4B’s own GP, Dr Tom Evans, who will be available online to answer questions.

The firm’s expert industrial disease solicitors have a national reputation for dealing with all types of claim involving respiratory illness and damage caused by negligent exposure to toxic substances such as asbestos. Shoosmiths has been involved with S4B since 2018 and supported the charity in putting on a concert by members from Northampton, Corby and Wellingborough in April 2019 at the Cripps Hall Theatre, Northampton which raised over £4,000. A proposed second concert could not proceed due to the Covid lockdown restrictions, so S4B has moved to exclusively virtual sessions.

Sharine Burgess, a partner at Shoosmiths specialising in serious injury and illness claims who has worked closely with Singing4Breathing said:

“We are delighted to be involved with such an inspiring group of people once again by giving James Wyatt and his team the opportunity to help those with post/long Covid illness manage a variety of symptoms which are not limited to just respiratory issues. Managing breathlessness in addition to medication through these activities means the benefits this programme will deliver to people and communities across the region are not just physical, but also social and psychological.”
