Erica joined Shoosmiths in August 2013 as a Solicitor in the Clinical Negligence department.
Erica works on a wide range of diverse cases across clinical negligence, including Orthopaedic and amputation cases, delay in diagnosing cancer cases and fatal accident cases.
She has previously negotiated a settlement with the NHSLA for damages which exceeded £100,000. This matter involved the delay of diagnosing a treating a gentleman who later died from sepsis. Liability was denied and the NHSLA were initially unwilling to entering to discussions about settling the claim.
In addition, she has also worked as a part of a team on a case which involved a delay in diagnosing and treating cervical cancer. We argued that the NHS had failed on several occasions to correctly interpret test results and had missed the opportunity to stop the Claimant’s abnormal cells from developing into cancer. The lady was very young and suffered from numerous complications. She had to undergo a hysterectomy and was unable to have any children of her own. The claim was eventually settled for £550,000.
Prior to joining Shoosmiths, Erica was a Solicitor with Challinors. Erica graduated with a first class Hons in Law from University of the West of England prior to training as a solicitor. She is also a committee member of Worcestershire Medico Legal Society.
Outside of work, Erica also enjoys reading, walking and travel.
