£132,500 compensation for asbestos exposure leading to mesothelioma

Our specialist asbestos team of solicitors won £132,500 damages for a 79 year old client in just five months from taking instructions to receipt of the cheque.

Our client was employed as an electrician from 1946 until 1974 during which time he was exposed to asbestos as a result of changing brake drums on commercial vehicles. He had to hack the asbestos brake lining off, clearing out the asbestos dust by hand before fitting the new brake lining.

He'd had a confirmed diagnosis of Mesothelioma in 2012 and was keen to get on with a claim due to his shortened life expectancy. We visited him at home to get statements and evidence and although he had no financial dependents, it was important to settle the case within his lifetime as there were certain claims which could not be made after death by his estate.

We obtained an early admission of liability thanks to the evidence from our client and witnesses and used Fast Track procedures to make sure that the entire case was settled within just five months of instruction. The award was sufficient to ensure that the household chores and gardening our client would have otherwise done could be paid for privately. We were also able to purchase a reclining chair and bed to make his life a little more comfortable and provision was made for private care at end of life.
